Why I chose the Republican Party as my political home and
what role I hope to play in the Republican Party in the future?
I chose to be a Republican because of my faith in Jesus
Christ, my experiences through life, and through studying history and government.
First, I am a born-again believer in Jesus Christ. This means that I believe Jesus came to this Earth, was without sin, died for our sins, and rose from the dead and ascended to heaven. Because of my belief, I am called to live out my life in a manner glorifying to God. This calling means that every decision I make and everything I do and believe should glorify God. I believe the Bible teaches us to honor and respect all life, including the unborn. I believe the Bible teaches us that marriage is to be between a man and a woman. I believe that Bible teaches us to be responsible for our actions and to love and help others. It is because the Republican Party adheres to those beliefs that I chose to be a Republican.
Second, my experiences through life have taught me that the values which the Republican Party holds are the key to not only living an honorable and successful life, but building a free and prosperous nation. My family was not involved politically while I was growing up, but they taught to me and lived out the values that Republicans hold. Those values: hard work, discipline, integrity, and service were instilled in me throughout my childhood and are the values I adhere to today.
Third, history is crystal clear when it comes to what type of government provides for the most prosperity and freedom, and what kind results in misery for people. There are several reasons why government is necessary, but the most basic reason is that people unrestrained do evil things. Government 101 teaches us that we need a government to keep people from harming each other. This means that we give up some of our rights to the government for protection. The problem with governments throughout history is when they try to take too many rights away from the people, or the people too eagerly give up their rights to the government in the name of economic security. Over the centuries, through trial and error, we have figured out that a government of limited, enumerated powers works best to promote liberty and security. I am a Republican because Republicans believe that the federal government should be limited in its powers. Republicans believe that we have natural rights given by God that cannot be taken away, and that people should not eagerly surrender their rights to the government in the name of convenience or comfort.
